literalbanana Sadly I think surveys are going to become even more popular in the current phase of the epistemic crisis, because they “replicate” (people answer similar questions sort of the same), even if they’re not meaningful

rupert_pearse So if (as some suggest) we lock up the old and sick, then let the virus rip, we would see many young people die of COVID, but many more survive with long-term disability, with the greatest impact on the poorest in society. The economy would get much worse, not better. 8/10

rupert_pearse For society, death is quick, simple and relatively inexpensive. But survival with serious complications is the much more likely outcome from COVID, and for many people a worse one. Also worse for the economy. Ill people need care from their family and the state. 7/10

alqaeda Reached out to the White House about the possibility of some pardons for our guys, but was told that Donald Trump only pardons murderers who kill brown people. When I said that we’d killed a lot of brown people too, they said it didn’t count & hung up on me. Disappointing.

edyong209 I'm fairly candid in this interview about the mental health challenges of doing this work, and I hope that's helpful--cathartic? affirming?--for others in journalism and/or public health who have similarly struggled with a difficult year. longform.org/posts/longform…
