wzuidema The 2010s were an eventful decade for NLP! Here are ten shocking developments since 2010, and 13 papers* illustrating them, that have changed the field almost beyond recognition.
(* in the spirit of @iamtrask and @FelixHill84, exclusively from other groups :)).
wzuidema It has been an exhausting 10 years, trying to keep up with the literature, redesigning courses and dealing with an explosion of number of students. But it has certainly also been a privilige to be in a field where so much was happening!

@EnglishGibson AFAIK, people don't use the reflexive variant with a dative reflexive pronoun. Duden does say "ich traue mich/(selten, landschaftlich:) mir nicht, auf den Baum zu klettern", but I think that's about dialects that don't distinguish dative and accusative? Not sure.
@EnglishGibson It's two different constructions with different meanings:
trauen + Dativ -> trust (not a reflexive verb, but of course the dative object can be a reflexive pronoun)
sich (Akk.) trauen -> dare (this one is a reflexive verb)

EnglishGibson Me: "I don't trust myself" can't be an authentic translation of "ich traue mich nicht". It sounds too close to the German. Better translate it as "I don't dare".
My sister (with no knowledge of German): I don't trust myself to make the coffee here coz I don't know the amounts.
@EnglishGibson Nice! I would translate that literally as "Ich traue *mir* nicht, den Kaffee zu machen" or more idiomatically as "Ich traue mir nicht *zu*, den Kaffee zu machen" - a subtle difference, but I agree the translation works in this example.
