AnimaAnandkumar More importantly, go back to fundamentals. Low hanging fruits of #DeepLearning are getting exhausted. You will need creativity + hard work. You will need techniques outside #DeepLearning to make a unique impact. Invest in that learning and focus on long term.

DiagnosticChick I don't have time to get into this, but a thought for my prof friends: the adversarial teacher-student relationship precedent set by intro-level weed-out classes is probably part of why students don't come to y'all's office hours or ask you for help when they're struggling.
