ID_AA_Carmack Someone noticed that when you have hundreds / thousands of cores in a supercomputer, the individual utilization boxes in Task Manager start to look like pixels. People started making pictures by doing different amounts of work on specific processors.

It escalated quickly. twitter.com/ares_emu/statu…

robertgriesemer The result is 0. The Go parser cannot tell if int(0,) is a conversion or a function call without type information. Per the spec, a call permits a trailing comma; a conversion doesn't. This is a "zero-day" bug in the spec, or the compiler.

"Instead of timidly admitting to our various privileges, let’s ask ourselves what a world where all black life matters everywhere would look like – and accept nothing else."

"Capitalism’s inseparability from anti-black racism lives on through neocolonialism, which compounds black suffering across Africa through extractive, ecologically damaging multinational corporations, the predatory practices of(…)lending agencies, and(…)military intervention."

"Racial capitalism, as a term popularised by the scholar Cedric Robinson (with its roots in apartheid-era South Africa), is a way of understanding capitalism’s processes of exploiting who it racialises and racialising who it exploits."

"To the privilege-renouncer, there is little need to address an inconvenient fact: the immense economic order that spans the globe has historically needed a black underclass, both domestically and overseas, to survive." amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

sarahookr The technical interview format is broken.
Nice to see some research backing up what everyone already knows.

huge diversity impact of doing whiteboard style interviews in front of a interviewer. When the same questions are done in private, all women pass.

ojahnn I always find it so silly and unrealistic when characters on TV shows give exhaustive context in each conversation they have, to catch up viewers, but - today I realized I do the same thing in my biweekly meetings with my supervisor, I literally have a "previously on..." routine

@wayfu See also: motor theory of speech perception. In that context I once heard it said that under certain circumstances, people can get hoarse from just listening because their own vocal tract subconsciously imitates what is heard. Not sure if true though.
